The Ryobi ZRAG402 Angle Grinder Review

The Ryobi angle grinder rated the lowest of them all in all categories except pricing. The price may tempt you to buy it but our recommendation is to keep your money. Ryobi makes many different products from large printing machines to power tools.

Most Ryobi products are made very well. Looking at all of the customer reviews we could find online plus our own personal experience makes us have to place this angle grinder at the very bottom.

Just for your information, Ryobi printing presses had the very best reviews. Makes you wonder what happened when they made this angle grinder. We really had to look very hard to find actual customer reviews for this product.

Apparently they just do not sell very well and it looks like to me that the company has tried to gain sales by making it very cheap. This tactic appears not to be working very well for them.

Pros:

The price is very low but it is a refurbished model

The support handle is extra long

Great brand name

Cons:

It is refurbished

Not very many reviews found which means people are not buying them.

One reviewer said the on/off switch was bad.

Another reviewer said his motor burnt our after just a few hours of  use. I should add that they refunded his money without any problems what so ever..

The power is 4.4 amps which is extremely low to say the least. The amps should come in at 6 to 10 amps.

Me personally – the power cord wires were cut by a piece of metal that fell on it. The metal did not cut the insulation but the wires inside were cut. I am not saying at all that it was their fault. I may have been a little too hard on it but I like my tools to be able to take abuse and keep working. Some tools can hold up too a lot of abuse while others just can not handle it.

Must have the special wrench that they provide in order to change the disk. The reason I have listed it as a con is because if you misplace the wrench then the Ryobi angle grinder is worthless. I like the kind that you can use a normal open end wrench to change the disks.

The Makita 9557PB Angle Grinder Review

This angle grinder is almost the same as the Bosch angle grinder. They very similar in all aspects but we had to pick one over the other so we placed the Makita just a fraction under the Bosch.

Makita makes many different power tools from large capacity air compressors to this angle grinder. Seems like their air compressors are much better than the grinders.

We were able to find numerous reviews just about everywhere, obviously this is a very popular tool. The common theme we kept seeing over and over was the motor burning out after longer periods of continuous use. The Makita angle grinder is for people whom may not use it very often and whom do not use it for periods of 20 minutes or more continuously.

Again this one is just like the Bosch. The price is very reasonable but you pay for what you get. If you see yourself only using this a few times a year then maybe it would work for you but if you need an angle grinder for your job or you use one a lot then get the Mebo.

Pros:

The price is inexpensive

The extra wide on/off switch is great (paddle wheel)

1 year limited warranty

Great brand name

Cons:

Beware of CPO Makita – Only buy Makita without the CPO

Tons of reviews with mixed feelings

The same problems kept popping up no matter what site the reviews were posted at, such as:

The motor burning up was the number 1 problems by far. If you used for any extended length of time the motor fried.

The next problems were issues small but still enough for us to justify listing them here:

Some of the plugs were bent, one reviewer said the threads where the handle screws in were not tapped all of the way and there were a couple of problems with them honoring their warranty.

The Bosch 1375A Angle Grinder Review

The Bosch angle grinder rates just above the Makita and just about even with the DeWalt. Those three angle grinders are all very similar. The Metabo and Milwaukee are much better but the price reflects the difference where as the Ryobi is definitely a step or two behind them all.

These angle grinders had a ton of reviews that are mostly positive. We had to really look hard to find some bad reviews because most everyone liked them. It seems to me that the coatings they have over the copper windings really helps the motor last compared to the Makita angle grinder's motor that burns out rather easily.

A couple of users said that the on/off switch's ability to lock the motor in the on position was a safety hazard and that they actually hurt themselves because of this feature. The feature is suppose to be for convenience so that you do not have to continually hold the switch for long periods of use. Please take this into consideration before you buy.

Many home use users have rated this angle grinder hands down the best buy, period.

Pros:

The price is inexpensive

The tool itself is wide

Big handle

The extra wide on/off switch is great (paddle wheel)

Lockable on switch

It lasts very well for non commercial use

1 year limited warranty

Accessory port (not sure what accessory you would use)

Great brand name

Cons:

Loud motor

On switch is lockable resulting in possible injury if you are not very careful

Does not come with carrying case – costs extra

Tool is too bulky (I like bulky, personally)

Editors Note***  We really had to nit pick to find complaints. If you are not using this commercially then we recommend this angle grinder above all others. We had to place below the DeWalt only because of the size of the motor and the carry case issue.

The DeWalt D28110 Angle Grinder Review

The DeWalt angle grinder rates just above the Bosch and Makita and right under neath the Milwaukee. These 4 angle grinders are separated by the power of the motor mainly. The way it works is that the higher the price the more benefits you get.

DeWalt is primarily known for supplying builders their tools. They branched to the home owners market where they made smaller versions of their commercial grade tools so that they could compete with the pricing. You can never go wrong when buying a DeWalt angle grinder of any other of their tools.

I have owned several angle grinders and this one has to be my favorite consider quality vs price. I have owned 2 different DeWalt angle grinders, the reason I bought the second one was because the first broke where you change the wheel.

I can still use it but the locking pin is jammed. I bought another one because I really like it. I have owned a couple of the lesser models reviewed here and will not ever buy another one of them, EVER.

Pros:

The price is inexpensive

The tool is low profile for fitting in to small places

Interchangeable handle for right to left hand

Fast motor

Long slender body

No special wrench required to change wheels

Comes with carrying case

3 year limited warranty

1 year free service contract

90 money back guarantee

Excellent brand name

Cons:

The Milwaukee 6148-30 Angle Grinder Review

The Milwaukee angle grinder rates just under the Metabo but way above all others. The 10 amp motor with all of the functions that it has leaves the other brands in the dust, again, with exception of the Metabo angle grinder.

Milwaukee makes high quality power tools. They have been in business since 1934. The company has a very sound reputation for making only the top of line in quality power tools. The price does reflects how well the equipment is built. It goes along with old saying that "you get what you pay for".

I personally have never owned a Milwaukee angle grinder. I have owned or still do own 2 other models. I know that the next angle grinder that I buy will be this model, picture shown above, because after researching all the different models leads me to believe that the quality you get with a Milwaukee angle grinder completely justifies the price.

One other reason why I am personally selecting this model is because I am tired of owning the cheaper models of power tools in general. I want something that is going to last and I do not want to have to get another tool every time one of the cheap ones breaks on me in the middle of a job.

For my money I choose this grinder, personally, because it meets quality and price in the middle.

Pros:

The tool has three different positions for holding while cutting

Super powerful fast motor

The large paddle on/off switch has several different settings

The safety guard adjusts

Baffles to blow debris away from the motor

Epoxy wiring coatings

Multi-Port exhaust system

Overload protection

Out of the 50 to 60 reviews we found only 3 of them were negative. Most everyone loved this angle grinder.

Excellent brand name

Cons:

The price is high – almost double that of other models

On switch is lockable resulting in possible injury if you are not very careful

One reviewer said that this model was not nearly as good as their previous model

One reviewer said that handle was too soft

One reviewer said that it was too expensive for what you get

The Metabo W7-115 Quick Angle Grinder Review

The Metabo angle grinder rates just slightly above the Milwaukee and way above the other models. This is the best of the best. We searched very hard and the only negative we could find is the pricing. There are not just tons of reviews out there on the Metabo but read about 20 and every one them were very positive. Most, in fact, were extremely positive.

Reviewers say things like they are "virtually indestructible" – "2 have lasted eight years" – "Milwaukee, Bosch, Hilti, Makita, Dewalt, Porter Cable, just to name a few, and none of those machines even comes close to the Metabo" – "I ran over mine with my truck and it did not break" – "Well worth the extra costs" – etc…

Our assessment remains the same although this is obviously one heck of a machine. If you are only going to use your angle grinder for light weight residential type work the recommend the DeWalt. If you are going to use the angle grinder very frequently or for commercial applications then we suggest the Milwaukee.

If money is not a issue in your household then definitely buy a Metabo angle grinder.

Pros:

Interchangeable handle for right to left hand

Fast motor

Safety clutch

No tools required to change wheels

No tools required to adjust guard

Comes with carrying case and Diamond wheel

2 – position handle

Windings protection grid is what makes it last for years

Made very good

Excellent brand name

Cons:

Price is high
